最成功的摇滚乐队：The Beatles
The Beatles（甲壳虫乐队，也译作“披头士”或“披头四”）可以说是摇滚乐史上最成功和最重要的一支乐队。
这个乐队，是来自英国利物浦的四个小伙子发起组成的，他们是：约翰.列侬(J ohn Lennon,1940-1980),保罗麦卡特尼(PaulMcCartney , 1942-...),乔治.哈里森(G eorge Harrison,1943-...)和林戈.斯塔尔(Ringo Starr,原名Richard Starkey,1940 -...)。1956年，16岁的列侬结识了14岁的麦卡特尼，当时他们都在练习吉它技艺，以 便仿效那些“节奏-布鲁斯”明星，实现自己的梦想。他们又找来了麦卡特尼的同校生 --哈里森。斯塔尔要晚一些加入。 初期，乐队的名字不断更换，这也是当时青年乐队组合的常事
1960年，他们在 德国汉堡的演出开始引起人们的注意，取得了一定的成功，名字也改回了曾经一度用 的Beatles.他们回到英国后，利物浦的一个唱片商的儿子布莱恩.爱泼斯坦(Brian Ep stein)认定他们前途无量,自愿成为了他们的经纪人。在以后的岁月里，爱泼斯坦积极 的策划，推动了“甲壳虫”的事业，起了重大的作用，被称为“甲壳虫”乐队的第五 个成员。 1962年，“甲壳虫”的第一张单曲唱片《请爱我》（Love me do)发行后引起了 巨大的反响，成为上榜歌曲；紧接着《请使我高兴》（Please,please me)成了他们的 第一首冠军歌曲。1963年，他们在英伦三岛都受到了狂热的欢迎，《我想握住你的手》 （I want to hold your hand)等歌曲常年上榜。
1964年的成功更令人陶醉，“甲壳虫 ”不但在欧洲而且在新大陆也获得了英雄般的欢迎，他们甚至在著名的卡内基音乐厅 登台演出。这时候，世界性的甲壳虫热潮已经形成。列侬意味深长的歌词创作和他与 麦卡特尼的成功合作，是“甲壳虫”非凡成功的关键。他们的语言，装束，生活习惯， 到处都被狂热的追随和摹仿。他们的歌曲题材广泛，从爱情到反战，扩展了摇滚乐的 表现力，反映了60年代青年的心声。1966年后，他们的公开演出减少了，但创作依然 活跃，《平装书作家》（Paper back writer)和《黄色潜水艇》（Yellow submarine) 等都创作于这段时间，《你所需要的就是爱》（All you need is love)等歌曲也一直 上榜。但同时乐队中各人也已热衷于各自发展，出了一些唱片也很成功。他们终于在 1967年正式宣布解散了。
“甲壳虫”虽然已不存在了，但歌声却常留于世。乐队的歌手也都有各自成功的独 唱生 涯。1980年，当列侬在一次不幸的崇拜者枪击事件中去世时，全世界的摇滚乐爱 好者又都沉浸在对“甲壳虫”的往昔的怀念之中，这证实了他们的音乐有多大的魅力！
